Of Sierra Leone, West Africa. A Colony-born Christian of the Eboe Tribe. At Charlotte School and Fourah Bay Institution. 1841, a Catechist and Assistant Schoolmaster at Regent, and also at Kissey, Wilberforce, Charlotte, Leicester, Waterloo, and Benguema. 1856, June 8, made a deacon by Bishop of Sierra Leone; and 1859, June 19, ordained a priest by Bishop of London. Was stationed at Freetown, Kissey Road; 1857, Onitsha, and 1871, Prince Alfred's Town (Quiah). 1859, April, to England, 1860, March 24, to West Africa and Niger. Transferred to the Native Pastorate. 1857, accompanied the 3rd Niger Expedition. Translated portions of the New Testament into Ibo; also the Liturgy and smaller works; and a Primer of the Ibo language spoken at the Nun.
